Mirrors on Sea: Welcome

Object, Image, Space

Project summary

This project brief was given the initial title of “Object, Image and Space”, I then interpreted this idea as expensive space, and how space can be expanded.

I first looked at expansive and immersive landscapes, this lead me to focus on the ocean as I have the most emotional connection to this body of space. Then incorporating mirrors to further expand the space, while bringing in the element of illusion for both myself and the viewer.

Mirror Photography

This was my first step in the design process and developing my idea. Taking both simple elements to a practical side, this really gave the whole process a push and gave the work a platform to build on.

Laser Cut & Collage

Laser cutting design washy next step, although the ‘flow’ designs were always planned as a means to replicate the sporadic movement of water currents; the more literal and scenic designs came after and enabled me to incorporate layering.

The backgrounds for the laser cut on paper were created as a basic illustrative response to my seaside photoshoot, once again, incorporating both physical layers and layers of meaning.
